Compassion Opportunity
Go and do likewise….
These are the words of Jesus telling the questioning expert of the law about how to care for others. What the Good Samaritan did was tend to the physical needs of a wounded traveler who was left as dead. Others passed and ignored the opportunity to show compassion until the Good Samaritan went out of his way and provided his time and his money to nurture the man back to health. “Go and do likewise”, Jesus instructed.
It seems like every family has at least one family member in desperate need of medical care in developing world countries such as the Philippines. High medical costs and inaccessible services result in countless unnecessary deaths, suffering and debts. A family can be forced to beg on the streets to cover the cost of medicine that is needed for a child or a parent. Even more than the medical treatment that can bring healing is the opportunity to “go and do likewise”, to offer love and compassion that can begin the process of God changing lives.
Here in Mindanao, millions do not have access to basic medical services. As a result, countless families suffer unnecessarily from easily treatable diseases and lack of hygienic and nutritional practices. This problem is intensified by the ailing Philippine economy, the great disparity in incomes, and the unequal distribution of healthcare resources and infrastructure, as well as the geographical, socio-political and cultural isolation of various people groups.
Our main goals are: to improve access to healthcare, improve community health awareness and disease prevention, share nutritional information, offer immunizations and increase the general health for the impoverished people of Mindanao. In doing all this, our aim is help the weary traveler find rest and restoration in Christ.
Every need provides an opportunity to care…..
